The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE) released its June Internet gaming report today, which saw the state’s online casinos rake in a total of $20,233,399, a 4% drop from the $21,071,248 banked in May. The majority of the June total came from slots and table games, which brought in $18,497,765, while NJ poker sites contributed $1,735,634.
Golden Nugget (GN), which is partnered with Betfair Casino and SugarHouse, once again came out as the big winner for the month, reporting an impressive total gaming win of $5,576,526. The alliance took in over $1.6 million more than its closest competitor, Borgata/party, while Resorts and Caesars grabbed the third and fourth spots, posting total wins of $3,678,622 and $3,611,618 respectively.
Borgata was the only casino to enjoy a month over month gain, banking nearly $400,000 more than its total take in May. Trop/Virgin experienced the biggest drop of the state’s five licensees, taking in over $500,000 less than it did the previous month.
The June numbers bring Golden Nugget up to nearly $33 million in total revenue for the year. The site had its best month ever in March, however, when it raked in $6,176,515. Borgata sits at $23,464,514 for 2017, while licensees Caesars, Resorts and Tropicana all hover around $21 million each.
New Jersey online casinos have now generated a total of $121,474,559 for the year, while contributing $18,221,279 to state coffers.
With a total take of $1,735,634, the state’s online poker sites experienced a sharp 18% drop in revenue compared with the previous month’s total of $2,119,885. In fact, the month of June was the industry’s worst ever, coming in just below the second lowest total of $1,771,123 posted in September 2015.
Industry leader PokerStars topped the list with a $679,637 win, but took the biggest hit for the month, raking in $283,277 less than it did in May. Borgata/party grabbed the second spot with $585,970, a $27,000 month over month drop, while WSOP/888 banked $470,027, nearly $74,000 less than they did in May. It was the first time that WSOP/888 saw its online poker revenue sink below the $500k threshold.
The disappointing June numbers put Garden State poker sites at $12,585,723 in revenue for all of 2017, representing just a scant 10.4% of total industry revenue.
One positive piece of news for online poker in New Jersey was the launch of a new poker site, the first since PokerStars’ entry into the market in early 2016. While much is expected of Pala Poker in NJ and elsewhere, their first month did lead to overall revenue gains for Borgata, their licensing partner in the state.
