Divine Fortune Brings The Spoils Of Ancient Greece To BetMGM

Ancient Greece. The birthplace of democracy. The birthplace of Western philosophy. The birthplace of … umbrellas?

Yes. Umbrellas. They invented them, at least for use in the rain, sometime in the fourth century B.C.E.

And hopefully you’ll need an umbrella to protect you from all the money you’ll win playing the online slot Divine Fortune at BetMGM casino NJ

Yes. Hopefully.

The above terrible bit of wordplay aside — did the Greeks invent wordplay? — Divine Fortune is a now-classic 5×3 slot that features many of the bells and whistles we have all come to love, such as expanding wilds, bonus games, and pictures of Medusa.

Fun fact: Medusa is also called Gorgo and was one of three monstrous Gorgons — you know, the winged women with snakes instead of hair. I mean, not a deal-breaker, but still: Beware.

Anyway … on to the game, and one of the most popular NJ casino apps you’ll find.

The facts

This NetEnt banger features a healthy 96.6% RTP, which is notable because there is a big jackpot waiting at the end of the rainbow after you put your Greek umbrella away. (And I’ll stop with the umbrella stuff now. There are no umbrellas in this game. I’ve lost control. Sorry.)

But yes: Most games that feature a large jackpot — and this one was north of $96,000(!) when I was playing it — have much lower RTPs. So this is a game you can play for a while with a smaller-than-average risk of ruin.

As far as slots go, this one is generally straightforward: Get three or more symbols in a row — from the aforementioned Medusa, followed by a lion, a bull, an eagle-looking thing, and the classic Greek-themed A-K-Q-J playing cards — and win yourself some coinage.

But the real money comes with the wilds and the bonus rounds.

The wilds are all “falling” wilds, meaning if you get a wild — it’s a white stallion — on the top row, you win anything you win and then the wild “falls” to the second row and you get a re-spin. Then it falls to the third row, and then off the board. Bottom line: One wild can result in up to four spins.

And if you get a wild on top of a wild, the reel fills with wilds top to bottom, and then they fall and re-spin.

Free spins are granted when you get three or more hands-holding-a-lightning-bolt symbols. You get five free spins with three symbols, eight free spins with four, and 12 free spins with five.

Lastly, collect three coins and you enter the bonus round. There are three rows of potential coins, and each coin reveals a prize. Get one row filled with coins, win the minor prize. Get two rows filled, win the major. And if you get all three rows filled? That’s the mega jackpot, in this case and at this time, the aforementioned $96K.

Look and feel

Well, the opening credits board has a pegasus on it, and flying horses are cool, so there’s that. Once you open up the game, you’re greeted with what I suppose is ancient Greece-themed music? I don’t know, I wasn’t there. It’s spooky-sounding, at the very least.

And surrounding the actual slot itself is a pair of Greek statues with healthy hip-to-waist ratios. Those were very important to the ancient Greeks, I’m sure.

The results

Well, I didn’t win the $96K, but I did lose $3, so that’s that. I pretty much lost nearly every spin, and then I started stacking wilds and collecting coins and won back $5.93 between the wilds and the coin bonus round.

It was a pleasant enough experience, all around, but be forewarned: It’s all pretty basic, as far as slots go. Light on the bells, no whistles, and nary an umbrella in sight.
