The NJ casino mobile app is free to download and available both for iOS and Android devices. Those with Androids need to go to the BetMGM site to download, while iOS users can get the app from the Apple store.

The app design is clear and functional. The familiar MGM black, white, and gold color scheme is pleasant if not terribly remarkable from an aesthetic standpoint. There’s a lot of text and not much in the way of graphics or extra frills, which keeps the focus squarely on finding and making bets.

Overall the app sports a “serious” or no-nonsense look that combined with its ease of use will be a positive for most. It is also an improvement over its earlier playMGM iteration, both in terms of appearance and usability.

Across the top of the BetMGM Sportsbook app’s opening screen you’ll find shortcuts to different sports, live betting, promotions, the BetMGM casino, and more. A scrolling banner highlights ongoing promotions and the day’s marquee matchups, with other popular games highlighted below. In our experience with the app, the screens do sometimes take an extra beat or two to load, even over strong wi-fi, though that’s not a major inconvenience and the app is very stable (never crashing).

The “Betslip” works similar to other online sportsbooks. Choosing a wager brings the slip up from the bottom, allowing you to enter an amount. You can then either go ahead and place the bet or keep surfing to find other wagers to add to your slip. Then when you are ready to place your bets, click the Betslip button to see all your bets at once, and having confirmed them you can place them all with a single button click.

Within the different games you’ll find a lot of handy features to help you sort through betting options. You can isolate totals, spread bets, team and player props, or display all the available bets for a given contest in one long scrollable list.

Web-based platform

The desktop or web-based version of the BetMGM Sportsbook has all the same features as the app, again forgoing extra flash and ornament in favor of accessibility.

All operates very similarly, with the added screen space making it possible to display more items in a standard three-column layout with a permanent menu across the top.

We really like the search feature, which is always present on the web-based platform although you need to scroll to the right to get to it on the app. Click the magnifying glass, type a team or player name, and you can instantly call up available bets and start placing them right away.

As with the BetMGM Sportsbook app, the web-based platform also makes it simple for users to jump over to the casino or poker rooms, if they are so inclined.

Deposits and withdrawals

There are lots of ways to deposit and withdraw funds to and from your account, all of which are available through both the app and the desktop web-version of the site.

The minimum deposit is $10. There are quite a few different methods to deposit available — more than most online sportsbooks. These include:

Betting lines at BetMGM NJ

Unfortunately, when it comes to the pricing and betting options category, BetMGM sportsbook sometimes stands out quite unfavorably.  The sportsbook is generally competitive with others in the NJ market on moneyline bets, point spreads, and totals.

But often BetMGM posts spread bets with outsized juice, anywhere from 21 cents to 30 cents when competitors are “dealing” 20. You may even discover oddities such as -134/+110 on an NFL spread game total when almost every other sportsbook is posting -110 both ways or even -105 both ways.

It’s flat-out bizarre, probably not something most recreational bettors would care about or notice, but worth examining before you place a wager. Those margins add up and we hope over time for its own and bettors’ sake, the BetMGM oddsmakers will install more regular pricing patterns.

On player props specifically, BetMGM is inexplicably bad at times, with a vig often around 30 or 40 cents total or greater.

Generally, we have found that BetMGM does not offer as many player props as competing sportsbooks.

That said, one positive is all the other choices like “point bets” in which you pick a range of outcomes (e.g., Lakers win by 1-5, or 6-10, or 11-15, etc.). “Race to” bets are also available where you bet on which team reaches a particular score first, plus player props (called “player specials”) including lots of combinations (e.g., points + assists + rebounds and the like), and higher-risk “special bets” like whether or not a game will go into overtime or which period will feature the most goals. Digging around uncovers some other fun, non-standard bets as well.

“Price boosts” are occasionally offered to give users boosted odds on selected matchups.

The live betting options feature the same wide variety of bet types with the options constantly updated as games progress. There is an array of futures bets available with each sport as well, though perhaps not as wide a selection as found in other sportsbooks.

While we’re on the subject of promotions and bonuses, another positive of the BetMGM online sportsbook is the steady stream of promos and bonuses available to bettors. These are all worth checking regularly before placing any new wagers, as they apply to a variety of different betting types and scenarios.

While these offers are prominently displayed as banners when you first open the site, you can get to them in other ways as well. Find them on the app by tapping the “Promotions” tab in the lower right corner, while on the website you can get to them via a link on the right side of the permanent ruler bar. MGM’s land-based sportsbook

MGM’s land-based New Jersey sportsbook is located at the Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa in Atlantic City. The casino property has been open since 2003 and boasts a massive gaming space of 161,000 square feet.

When the sportsbook first opened at the Borgata in June 2018, it was housed inside the pre-existing Race Book, which became Borgata Race & Sports Book. It was quite an underwhelming temporary space. But about a year later in July 2019, MGM unveiled the The BetMGM Bar & Book — built at a cost of almost $12 million.

The BetMGM Bar & Book is 8,000-square-foot with a 40-foot wide LED video wall and six betting windows. There’s several high-top tables with self-charging stations, plush U-shaped booths, and banquet seating in the VIP lounge. The sportsbook’s bar offers a nice menu as well, with a great beer selection and specialty bar bites.

Overall, the casino is the top-grossing casino in Atlantic City and has seen significant renovations take place in 2005, 2007 and most recently in 2011. It’s played host to several movies, including The Bounty Hunter in 2010 and TV shows such as Impractical Jokers.
